Popular fiction, literary fiction, crime, and thrillers written in Amharic and first published in Ethiopia may all be submitted in this category. Books published from September 11/2018 to September 10/2019 will be eligible for the award entry.

POETRY BOOK PRIZE
This award is intended for a collection of new work by a single author; collections that include some previously published work will not be excluded, but at least three-quarters of a collection should comprise new poems. Books published from September 11/2018 to September 10/2019 will be eligible for the award entry.

SHORT STORY BOOK PRIZE
Popular fiction, literary fiction, graphic novels, crime, and thrillers may all be submitted in this category. Books written in Amharic and published from September 11/2018 to September 11/2019 will be eligible for the award entry.

ACADEMIC BOOK PRIZE
This award recognizes contextually relevant academic writings in Ethiopia. Books written in Amharic and published from September 11/2018 to September 11/2019 will be eligible for the award entry.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY BOOK PRIZE
This award is for autobiography books written in Amharic and first published in Ethiopia. Books written in Amharic and published from September 11/2010 to September 11/2019 will be eligible for the award entry.

AMHARIC CHILDREN BOOK PRIZE
This award for a book of a primarily literary rather than pictorial nature written for children between the ages of 5 and 12. A collection of poetry or a biography is acceptable, provided it is written for children in this age group. Books written in Amharic and published from September 11/2018 to September 11/2019 will be eligible for the award entry.

SOMALI CHILDREN BOOK PRIZE
This award for a book of a primarily literary rather than pictorial nature written for children between the ages of 5 and 12. A collection of poetry or a biography is acceptable, provided it is written for children in this age group. Books written in Somali language and published from September 11/2010 to September 11/2019 will be eligible for the award entry.

LIFE TIME ACHIVEMENT PRIZE

HOHE Award is an annual award presented for an author of a distinguished book possessing notable literary merit and critical perspective and illuminating important contemporary issues.
The HOHE Award highlights just some of the many good books with broad appeal published in Ethiopia during the past year. The award mainly aims to promote creative writing and reading culture in Ethiopia.

About us in short
Northeast events in collaboration with the Addis Abeba University is organizing HOHE literature award to promote the writing and reading culture in Ethiopia.
HOHE Award is organized on annual bases to promote creative writing and reading culture in Ethiopia. Besides to the main annual literary award, there will be different events and trainings that run throughout the year with the main aim of promoting creative writing and reading among the general population and children in particular. The training and events will stimulate our reading culture and literature focusing on children and youth. HOHE Award through promoting reading culture in the country it will contribute for increase in demand for the literary works and ultimately this will improve the gains from literary works, which will encourage writers and authors to produce more literary works.
HOW THE AWARD WORKS
The HOHE Award will have an organizing team, which consists of prominent authors, publishers, academicians, non-profit leaders and journalists. The organizing team will have the overall mandate of overseeing the award procedures and leading the process in an independent way. The organizing team will select judges and juries who will be working to select the books for the award. There will be a three people panel of judges and juries for all the three categories.

With the view to not make the award only as a stand-alone event there will be several concurrent programs throughout the year that will support the main objective of the award. Through the different activities that will be held throughout the year we will in a way be promoting and raising the profile of the award.
